jumping in a pile of leaves cardi

the look:

blouse - old urban renewal (uo)
tie and pullover - old h&m
cardi - old anthropologie
dhoti pants - old, from a local arts and crafts import shop
cap - old
boots - old ixos

the tale:

i wore this several days ago. it was my first woollen cardi of fall 2012. what is it about fairisle that screams fall? the label on the cardi reads: "sleeping on snow". i just can't see it. sleeping on snow in a fairisle cardi? what i can see is jumping in a pile of leaves in a fairisle cardi. but that doesn't sound quite right (or elegant), does it? how about: "falling on leaves"?

skipping down the street boots

the look:

shirt and jacket - old gap
pullover and scarf - old h&m
dhoti pants - from a local arts and crafts import shop
cap - old
boots - john fluevog

the tale:

i can't really say why i like (nay, why i love) these boots, but i do like them (nay, love them). so much so that i felt like skipping every time i had to walk somewhere ... anywhere ... even to the coffee station at work to fill up on fresh tea. if i were to try to say why i like them (nay, love them) so much, i would say that it might have something to do with their resemblance to 60s guy boots (they remind me of blow-up). okay. enough about the boots. let's move on to the dhoti pants. i am trying to get in as much wear of them as possible before the cold fall weather sets in and they won't be warm enough to wear (they are made of light, light cotton). i like (nay, love) dhoti pants and would like (nay, love) to be able to wear dhoti pants year round. (for some reason, i have to keep reminding myself that, during the summer, i bought some dhoti pants made of heavy cotton jersey for fall/winter wear. so really i don't have to worry about getting as much wear in of dhoti pants as possible before the cold fall weather sets in. i can now wear dhoti pants year round. if i don't forget that i have late fall/winter appropriate dhoti pants.)

brrrrrr jackets

the look:

top, skirt and jackets - kaliyana
scarf and hand warmers - old h&m
cap - old
shoes - trippen

the tale:

why is it that the chill of the first chilly day of fall always goes right to my bones? in most places (including my own home) indoor heating hasn't been turned on yet. in some places, like my office, air conditioning is still running. the result? at some times during such a day, wearing one jacket indoors isn't enough. wearing two, however, usually results in jokes at my expense. sigh. i so love fall ... jokes and all.

on being someone else jacket

the look:

blouse - old urban renewal/uo
tie and pullover - old h&m
jacket - anthropologie
pants - old, from a local arts and crafts import shop
cap - old
boots - old ixos

the tale:

today was one of those days when i couldn't string together a sentence to save my soul. it would have been great had i been able to don a costume and become a character, one that could have strung together a sentence to save her soul. my outfit today was inspired by, you guessed it, tin tin. too bad tin tin's eloquence (he is a journalist, after all) didn't come with the outfit.

blue jumper dress

the look:

shirt - uo
tie - old h&m
jumper dress - from a local arts and crafts import shop (#3)
jacket - anthropologie
cap - old
boots - john fluevog

the tale:

so when i went into work this morning, it felt like the end of summer. when i left work this evening, it felt like the beginning of fall. the result: some new sweaters -- light, not heavy, perfect for early to mid fall -- and a down jacket that i had been coveting for a couple of weeks that i snagged on sale. the sweaters will probably show up on the blog soon. the down jacket will be hanging back for a while.

red gingham shirt, red plaid jumper dress and red wool jacket

the look:

shirt and tie - old gap
jumper dress - old lands end
jacket - gap
cap - old
boots - john fluevog

the tale:

i am not a natural traveller. i like the idea of travelling and i am curious about places other than where i live, so i travel as a result. but i can't handle the reality of travelling. i love my own bed. i love having my own fridge and filling it with food that i love. i don't like having to rely on restaurant food. i love having a living room and a separate bedroom. i love my refuge. not having that refuge equals stress. when i return home from a trip, even one of a few days' duration, and no matter how much i may have enjoyed being where i was, it takes me several days to recover from the stress of having been away. why am i saying all this? because i am in that recovering from a trip mode and, as a result, i can't think of a thing to say about clothes.

cargo pants footwear

the look:

top - roots
trousers - kaliyana
cap - old
shoes - trippen

the tale:

well look at this: something on my feet, paired with cargo pants, other than army boots, usually my footwear of choice for cargo pants. if first impressions are anything to go by, when it comes to footwear, i love these shoes. even with cargo pants. maybe even especially with cargo pants.

puffy jacket

the look:

top, trousers and jacket - kaliyana
cardi - roots
cap - old
boots - old, from an army surplus store

the tale:

one of my favourite things about this time of year? one day, it is hot. the next day, the temperature drops ten degrees and you are tasting fall for a few consecutive days. yum. the falling temperatures must mean some new kaliyana clothes? puh-lease. little did i know, when i fell for kaliyana, that i would have to learn to be patient ... extremely patient.

crazy nights and days plaid dress

the look:

dress - vintage
jacket - old anthropologie
boots - john fluevog

the tale:

had i known what my day was going to be like today, i would have worn sneaks. okay, who am i kidding? i would never have worn sneaks. but i might have been well advised to have worn sneaks. also, had i bothered to check my emails yesterday, i would have been able to have gone a tad more casual today (maybe even jeans and sneaks). but i didn't bother to check my emails yesterday. my day today, well, some days are just like that. (the crazy nights part? well, i woke up at about half past three this morning with a non-stop runny nose.)

an old new pair of birks

the look:

top - old gap
cardi - jacob
jacket - olio organics
dhoti pants - lululemon
cap - old
shoes - old birkenstock

the tale:

confession time: sometimes i buy shoes and don't wear them until a year or so after their purchase. i know that this is rumoured to be bad thing to do, a sign that i am buying things that i shouldn't be. and, sometimes, this turns out to be true, i.e., i do buy something that i shouldn't have bought. but, not always. in fact, more often than not, these delayed gratification purchases turn out to be ... well ... delayed gratification ... nothing else. these birks are a case in point.
